FASHION PAKISTAN WEEK FPW WINTER/FESTIVE 2017

The strong fashion vibes at the winter/festive fashion show this year swept away many Karachiites in attendance. The the style game saw some hits and misses - here are the highlights from the three-day event: Misha Lakhani opened the fashion week with Persian-Indian inspired designs featuring delicate handwoven silks and intricate needle craft embroidery. Aamna Aqeel’s Palace Wonderland was all about magnificent use of pearls on modern silhouettes like off-shoulder tops, bell-bottom pants, gharara pants etc. Erum Khan was next with The Bridal Odyssey which showcased traditional-yet-modern ensembles; lehenga, cold shoulder cholis, flapper pants and trendy sleeve-cuts, were all breathtaking to look at. Obaid Shaikh’s Husan Ara mesmerised the onlookers with eccentric ethnic work alongside Marodi and Raisha techniques for each ensemble. Glitterati by Saira Rizwan, like its name, brought the right amount of bling to the ramp. The mixed colour palette, from blacks to reds and pastels to yellows, also caught everyone’s eyes. Closing the first day, Suffuse by Sana Yasir presented embellished pants and one shoulder peplum tops as well as embellished kaftan that stole the spotlight.

Among much razzmatazz, Sanam Chaudhri opened the second day with her stellar collection Pandora featuring silhouettes inspired by late 80’s and early 90’s with floral embellishments on the hems of shirts and intricate work keeping it contemporary. Wardha Saleem’s Dholak showcase created fun mehendi vibes on the ramp with vibrantly-coloured silhouettes of kamdani work. Next was Emraan Rajput’s menswear collection, The Gentleman’s Club. The well-tailored suits in a solid colour palette of navy blue, grey, maroon, white and black garnered much applause from spectators. Next up Sadaf Malaterre presented her daring, yet flirty collection of bold colours and sharp jumpsuits, dresses, capes and edgy pants. Set in a wintery backdrop, HEM featured ensembles with a soft colour palette of metallic silvers, silvers and dull golds, white and pastel pinks, heavily embellished gold and silver dresses. Deepak Perwani gave a powerful finale with his bridal showcase, Gold Dust, inspired by the exquisite heritage of the subcontinent, in the form of well-tailored sherwanis and majestic lehengas.

Platinum Series by Tena Durrani opened the last day of the fashion week with a bang. Her beautiful ensembles were heavily embellished with Swarovski crystals and gems in a soft colour palette of rose gold, champagne and metallic hues. Nauman Arfeen was up next with Carnation. He made an interesting use of velvet for the pants as well as floral embroidery patterns among other details. Saira Shakira wowed everyone with their signature designs, including lehenga cholis with beaded work and tassels and floral thread work with intricate mosaic borders. Adnan Pardesy’s Ravayat collection moved the night along. The colour palette of pastels, included mint green and silvers along with the use of black, mustard and blues, which managed to appeal everyone. Maheen Khan’s fierce yet splendid collection The Lion and the Muse was an impeccable sight of bright red flowy coats covered in sparkling embellishments with flowy pants, stylish halter tops and striped shirts. Intricate beadwork, use of Swarovski crystals and other gems and 3-D floral appliqués adorned with feathers by Sana Safinaz ended the affair with a great round of applause and a standing ovation.
