Fall brings with it beautiful colours, scents and traditions. Unfortunately, it can also mean dry, chapped lips. According to dermatologists, the skin on your lips tends to become drier faster than other parts of your body because the surface skin on them is thinner. We have got you covered for this season and many more to come. Here are 10 amazingly easy and beneficial lip scrub recipes that will keep your lips vibrant, hydrated and healthy all year long!

Honey-Sugar
You should try this basic lip scrub because it feels amazing. You will need two teaspoons of (regular/brown/raw) sugar and a teaspoon each of honey and almond oil. Mix everything together in a small bowl until you have a paste. Apply to lips and massage gently slough off dry, dead skin cells. Rinse with warm water and follow with lip balm. You can store any extra in a small container.

Bubblegum
This is probably one of the easiest do-it-yourself beauty products. You just need a tablespoon of sugar, half teaspoon of olive oil, two drops of bubblegum flavouring and if you want, you can add three drops of food colouring, as well. Just toss it all in a small bowl and mix it together, and exfoliate away. This will keep for about two months as long as it is at room temperature.

Cinnamon
Try this homemade cinnamon lip scrub for a little exfoliation which will prep your lips to absorb its healing properties. Not to mention, it will leave your lips naturally plumper, smelling of fall. Combine two tablespoons of brown sugar with half tablespoon each of olive oil, raw honey and ground cinnamon powder in a mixing bowl. Apply to lips and gently slough off dry, dead skin cells. Rinse with warm water and follow with lip balm.

Honey- Coconut
Since the season is becoming dryer by the day, if your lips are getting dry and chapped, you need this in your life. Honey- coconut lip scrub is incredibly moisturising and easy to make. Grab a little bowl and mix a tablespoon each of coconut oil and honey together, if you find it’s too thick, microwave it for about five seconds. Then pour in two tablespoons of sugar and add a teaspoon of luke warm water, and mix it all up until it is at a good consistency – not too watery and not too thick – which will make it super easy to use on your lips. Rub on your lips in a circular motion for two minutes then rinse with luke warm water. The scrub can be stored in the fridge for about two weeks.

Pumpkin Pie
If you think chapped lips are the worst and have to reapply lip balm 50 times a day, here’s how to make a lip scrub that will keep your lips soft all season long. Combine two tablespoons of coconut oil, one tablespoon each of honey and brown sugar and a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice together in a small bowl then transfer to a covered jar or container. Apply to lips and gently rub back and forth. Finish with an application of your favourite lip balm. Store in a cool, dry spot.

Chocolate
This chocolate lip scrub is a sweet treat for all your lips and senses; it smells so good you will want to eat it! Mix together three tablespoons of white granulated sugar, a tablespoon of cocoa powder, two teaspoons of olive oil, a teaspoon of vanilla or almond extract and a drizzle of honey in small bowl until a gritty chocolate paste forms. If too thin, add additional sugar; if too thick, add additional olive oil and honey. To apply, swab the lips with a thick glob of chocolate scrub and leave for up to five minutes. Rinse off thoroughly with warm water and apply a light coating of lip balm or petroleum jelly. You can store it in sealed container in the refrigerator for two to three weeks.

Minty Almond
This recipe uses brown sugar as an exfoliant that gently removes dry skin along with hydrating sweet almond and peppermint oils. This scrub is so effective that you won’t need a lip balm for the rest of the day. In a medium sized bowl, mix half teaspoon of brown sugar and one teaspoon of sweet almond oil until fully combined. Then mix in a teaspoon of honey until sugar is fully coated and stir in a drop of peppermint essential oil. Spoon out a dime sized amount and rub gently on lips for 15 seconds. Rinse the scrub off with warm water and a washcloth. Store in a cool dry place until next use.

Brown Sugar & Vanilla
This scrub works like magic, is totally natural and smells incredibly good. Using a mixing bowl, add half teaspoon honey then mix in a teaspoon of olive oil. This combination is super moisturising on dry lips. Lightly incorporate two teaspoons of brown sugar. The sugar will act as a gentle exfoliant, removing dead skin and relieving chapped lips. Add one-fourth teaspoon of vanilla extract. Mix the ingredients until combined then store in a small container. To use, simply apply a small amount to your lips and gently scrub for 10 seconds. Then, rinse it off and seal your lips with a lip balm.

Salt
Although most lip scrubs only contain sugar, try this one with a little salt as well, because it is a lot softer for the skin than sugar, as the grains are less rough and will provide gentler exfoliation. Add a teaspoon each of olive oil and vaseline along with some lip balm of your choice in a small bowl and stir until you get an even mixture. Vaseline and olive oil will soften your lips and make the mixture a bit stickier and more consistent, while the lip balm won’t only cure your lips but also adds some colour to the mixture, which is a nice extra. Now, little by little, add half teaspoon of salt and keep on adding sugar until the mixture has the right consistency. It should be a granular mixture. If you want, you can also add some honey.

Strawberry
Juicy strawberries are also beneficial for your lips. They can help rid your lips of dead skin cells and give them a rosy pink tint. Also, the vital minerals and vitamins in strawberries help keep your lips healthy and vibrant. Cut a ripe strawberry in half. Lightly smash the halved part and scrub your lips with it for a couple of minutes. Leave the strawberry pulp on your lips for 10 minutes then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Use this remedy two to three times a week. Another option is to mix together half tablespoon of mashed strawberries and a little honey. Apply the paste on your lips and scrub gently. Leave it on for 10 minutes then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Do this once or twice a week.
