Na Maloom Afraad 2 Banned in UAE

The sheikhs grew hot under the collar. Some solid rupiya was denied to our jazzy boys in Na Maloom Afraad 2 when the film was banned in UAE. But, why? Just because Nayyar Ejaz played the fat Arab sheikh? Ahem, no! They didn’t take offence to Nayyar playing the sheikh, they didn’t like his portrayal of one – period. But, this just doesn’t digest easily. Almost every third Indian film during the 70s and 80s had a wining and dining Arab sheikh, who loved girls doing cabaret in slinky dresses. Films like Hera Pheri, Johny Mera Naam, Charas, Double Cross etc had such characters in the 70s. Even now, such characters are shown in their films. So, why did the Arabs get so uptight on the sheikh in our film? Insiders believe that our producers have not worked on making good links in the film communities of the countries where we screen our new films. So, in the absence of such good will and friendly contact, we suffer from the consequences. In this context, India has loads of experience, and they don’t face such upheavals. NMA 2 could have collected a sizeable profit from UAE, which is now gone. As they say, Ya Sheikh! Apni apni dekh!
