Once upon a time, there was an Indian Prime Minister named Indira Gandhi who was fond of keeping power to herself; in fact, her elder son Sanjay had his eyes on Gayatri Devi who had rejected his advances and when his mother gained power during the 1975 Emergency, he set out to destroy Gayatri by turning her wealth into his own. This is the history lesson one must know before they go in to watch Milan Luthria’s Baadshaho that is based on real-life incidents.

In the movie, Maharani Geetanjali Devi’s (Ileana D’Cruz) treasure is stolen on its way to being shifted to the Gandhi residence and the men (and woman) responsible for the heist work for the Maharani. Hence begins the cat and mouse chase where the good guys (the thieves) have to outrun the military that was responsible for the truck that carried the treasure. Does Geetanjali get her treasure back or does the government succeed in making it part of the national treasure... watch the film to know more about that.

Ajay Devgn is the star of the film with powerful dialogues, convincing acting and presence to die for; his ‘Zindagi chaar din ki hai’ dialogue can be quoted anywhere, anytime due to its simplicity and impact. Emraan Hashmi plays second lead and, he too, has some memorable lines in the film where he mentions his friends who are no more. Sanjay Mishra and Esha Gupta support the two with their unique skill set, while Ileana D’Cruz plays the foreign-returned maharani to perfection. She is the one person in the entire movie who gives tough time to all the actors and must be commended for proving her selection over Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Then there is an army major played by Vidyut Jammwal who manages to give the experts a run for their money.

Director Milan’s fourth film with Ajay after Kachche Dhaage, Chori Chori and Once Upon A Time in Mumbai has all the ingredients of keeping the audience involved, including a soundtrack that has two remixes Mere Rashke Qamar and Kehdoon Tumhe. The explosive action sequences and the execution of the heist is something not many have seen in Bollywood flicks. Add the twists to the plot and you get a film with an ensemble cast that you simply can’t ignore. •
