Mariah Carey Releases 'Triumphant'

In Mariah Carey's world, all that glitters really is gold.
The songbird shows her fondness for shimmering things as well as her aggressive spirit in the new music video for the inspiring single "Triumphant (Get 'Em),' which she said she wrote after going through a hard time.
Mariah Carey's 'Triumphant' video had been well timed to tie-in with the Olympic fever that had been sweeping the globe over the last few weeks. The video shifts between monochrome and gold hues and features Mariah Carey, Rick Ross, Meek Mill and DJ Khaled, all playing their part in a boxing match. For the first two-thirds of the video, you'd be pardoned for thinking that Carey is merely a bit-part in her own video, as she lets the rappers take the wheels for the first couple of rhymes. She lets loose at the end though, showing off her immaculate vocals, warbling what sounds like a motivational speech, transformed into a smooth vocal.
The single was released in three distinct presentations earlier this month and Carey's manager Randy Jackson was keen to remind that the pop diva has had a lot of hits on the dance charts, in the past, hence the track was released as a 'vintage throwback' remix and a 'pulse club' remix, as well as the type that you see in the extravagant video. The scheduling of the single release came at an appropriate moment for Carey, as she was due to take her seat on the American Idol judging panel, shoving herself back into the public eye after she took time out to have twins last year, with partner Nick Cannon.
It looks as though Carey could be joined by Nicki Minaj on American Idol. Stories began to surface in the media earlier this week that the 'Starships' singer was a dead cert to take a role on the show, next to Carey.
However, the song has not been received very well despite the timing, scheduling and presentation of the video. The 42-year-old Carey is having a hard time convincing the audience to lend an ear after having an almost stagnant career in the past few years.
One US radio host even had a stab at her age.
"I think it's really hard to get on Top 40 radio when you are over 40," said the unnamed host.
"She's trying to get street cred by having rappers on the song but it isn't working.
What's really concerning her team is that most superstars' singles get in the top 10 on iTunes within the first days, just out of curiosity. It's not like people are listening to the song and deciding they don't like it; [with Mariah] they are not even listening."
