Pesticides – A Massive
Pakistan is an agricultural country where different crops are cultivated according to the season and region. Some of the major crops grown here include cotton, wheat, rice, sugarcane, maize etc. However, unnecessary use of pesticides is proving to be extremely harmful for the health of people and other living organisms. There are various side-effects, for instance, pesticide residue on the food we eat can have harmful effect on our health. The highest quantity of pesticide residue is found on peaches, apples, peppers, green vegetables and many others. Eating these pesticide infused fruits and vegetables is extremely injurious to our health. It is my request to the agricultural ministry to address this issue on an urgent basis.
Ahmad Ali Baig,
Fireworks At Weddings
I would like to draw the attention of the authorities towards the increased use of fireworks and firecrackers at weddings. Facts and figures indicate, that youngsters are mostly found involved in use of firecrackers. People consider it to be a symbol of prosperity irrespective of the fact that firecrackers are dangerous and create unwanted noise pollution. It is a need of the hour for the police to take strict measures against all such activities. Moreover, it is also the parent's responsibility to keep a check on what their children are doing.
Cheers To MAG!
I have been reading your magazine for the last two years, and it really has come a long way. Your latest issue impressed me even more than one before. You have produced a high-quality, fusion magazine that combines fashion, beauty, health, food, entertainment and politics so well. I eagerly wait for it every week. In my opinion, MAG is definitely the best fashion magazine of Pakistan.
Fasting & Lack Of Tolerance
The recent news regarding the ban of sheesha in cafes and restaurants in Lahore is very positive. It is good to see that something concrete is finally being done in some parts of the country. One hopes that the action would trigger a sustained effort that would root out this menace from the entire country. The use of tobacco in any form is injurious to health and sheesha is no different. It contains 40 per cent tobacco and 60 per cent essence to attract consumers. The Sindh government should also adopt a resolution to ban the use of sheesha at public places. Taking action that is sustainable is the key. One hopes it would be sooner rather than later.
In Ramadan, we usually see people fasting and doing nothing as if they have done some favour to others. Moreover, we also see people fighting, abusing, lying and indulging in all sorts of misdeeds. They lose their temper on trivial things and exhibit zero tolerance level. However, if someone tries to intervene and try to make them understand that this is not the way to behave while fasting, they act as if they are inflicted by some illness. If one is not capable of fasting then one should not, but if one decides to do so then, he/she must not bother others by their short temper or lack of will.
The Menace Of Wall Chalking
Graffiti on the walls of city buildings are now a common sight and locals walk past them without even giving these chalkings a second glance. However, the fact remains that this horrendous activity is defacing public property. Be it the walls of a school, hospital, mosque or a government building, most of them are inscribed with graffiti read political slogans. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) can curb this menace by issuing official warnings. If these are ignored, then the violators may be taken to task for violation of the law.
