Be it long and straight or an on-trend braid; work the season’s hottest hair trends with ease and confidence!
THE NEW BOB
The long bob, or ‘blob’, has always been a hit on the fashion circuit but this season it’s pushing its way through as the most popular trend to try. Shaggy chic is the only way to work this trend for summer and both a good dry shampoo and salt spray will be your BFFs.
How: Start by rough drying your hair then, taking large sections at a time, wrap each around a curling wand and hold for a few seconds. Work your way around until you have beautiful loose waves. Finish with a texture spray to add some volume and hold in place.
This style will look even better the next day, just add a few sprays of dry shampoo or texturising spray and you are good to go.
THE BRAIDY BUNCH
Be it milkmaid, French, fishtail or Mohawk, braids are literally everywhere you turn. Think smart at the back and edgy at the front. Perfect for those lazy days, braids work best on unwashed hair.
How: Start by splitting the hair you wish to braid into three sections and weave the right outer section over the middle, then the left outer section into the middle and so on until you come to the end. Tie the hair to finish and to keep it messy, leave some length after the tie and backcomb with a tail comb. It’s all about volume!
If you want even more texture, pull out some loose strands of hair throughout the length of the plait.
LONG & STRAIGHT
Harsh curls have been relegated to the back of the list this season and in their place are simple and subtle free flowing locks, perfect for that au natural look.
How: The best way to achieve this look is to start with a centre parting. Once your hair is clean and dry, simply blow through with a hairdryer or use straightening irons, depending on your hair’s texture. Irons will keep the locks looking super sleek. You can then create extra length by making your hair extra smooth. Apply a serum to seal any stray hair as well as the cuticles on the ends.
On extra-dry hair, use a moisturising serum throughout before blow-drying.
THE WET LOOK
A byproduct of the season’s sporty trend, matte is out and the drenched-in-gel slicked back hair is in. This look is easily achieved with the right product. Ideally hair should be short to medium in length and not too thick.
How: Dampen the hair with a water spray and, using a wet-look gel, generously rub between your palms to warm up and spread through the hair. Comb through with a wide tooth comb and leave to dry into the wet look and voila!
Be it tousled, tonged or curled, mermaid waves are back with a bang just make sure you have a brush to hand for the morning after!
Make sure the hair is dry and spray a little to add volume and protect from heat.
How: You will need a hair wand. Take large sections, twist the hair around the wand to create a relaxed wave that you won’t need to brush out.
Let it cool and use a light hairspray to hold into place.
THE LOW PONY
A lazy girl friendly trend, ponytails come positioned low this season, which is great for girls who don’t have as much length. Add a fancy clip or bow for extra fashion and beauty points!
How: You need to start with a smooth surface. Spray with a smoothing gloss to avoid static caused by brushing. Pull the hair back and use a bungee hook to secure the pony, rather than a hair band this enables you to secure the hair without disturbing the surface. And just remember to keep it low!
