Samina Jalil is considered as pioneer of home cooking. She has an impressive cooking experience of 30 years, and her home-based cooking classes have benefited thousands of housewives who were looking for an authentic platform to learn the art of cooking. Samina has hosted numerous cooking shows over the years and her current cooking show on a private channel is hugely popular. She considers cooking an art and wants every Pakistani woman to become a true master of this art. Recently, MAG caught up with Samina for a quick chat. Excerpts:
What made you decide that you want to become a professional cook?
I am an accidental cook. I started from a morning show, and I loved the experience so I continued. I always had this passion for cooking since childhood.
What's one food you can't live without?
I love vegetables and bottle gourd (loki) is my particular favourite. I can happily eat it every day.
What's your favourite food memory?
I remember when I was really young, I made this delicious shashlik dish with my mother on Bakra eid. So, that's my most favourite food memory.
Any cooking tip that you would like to share with all the novice cooks out there?
Yes, there is one very useful tip that I would like to share. If you want to get rid of the smell coming out from the chicken then you can marinate your chicken in 2 tablespoons of yogurt. The smell would instantly go away.
What do you like to cook for your family?
I mostly cook simple food when I cook for my family because they prefer that.
