Ex-SBP Governor Appointed As Assistant SG UN
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced last week the appointment of Shamshad Akhtar, former governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), as his senior adviser on Economic Development and Finance with the rank of Assistant Secretary-General in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).
Shamshad Akhtar was, until recently, the Vice President, Middle East and North Africa at the World Bank (WB). During her term as the SBP governor, she was nominated consecutively for two awards of Asia's Best Central Bank and was ranked by the Wall Street Journal as one of the top ten Asia women professionals in 2008.
