First International Residency Project organised by the Studio R.M., established by well-known artist R.M. Naeem, has concluded quite successfully. Under the project, five female and male artists from Lahore and Karachi (Pakistan) and Dhaka (Bangladesh) lived, worked together and indulged in creative activities for a month under one roof.
The outcome of the successfully launched Studio RM Residency project was displayed at the Ejaz Galleries off M.M.Alam Road in Gulberg in collaboration with innovative artist R.M.Naeem.
The artists who gathered under one roof and created impressive art work in different mediums were Sadaf Khan, Tayeba Begum Lipi, Sadaf Naeem, Irfan Hassan and Usman Ghauri. They felt very satisfied and proud as their art went on display and described the experiment very pleasant, friendly, conducive, creative as well as productive in all respects. They were quiet encouraged when large number of young art lovers thronged the Ejaz LahoreGalleries to view their paintings.
On display were 25 art pieces of the young artists as well as one each of Mudassar Manzoor, Ali Kazim and R.M.Naeem. Interestingly, eight paintings of Saba Khan, Irfan Hassan, Mudassar Manzoor, Ali Kazim and R.M. Naeem himself were sold already prior to the formal opening of the exhibition.
Calligraphic art work of young Ruheena Malik from Karachi was displayed at the Alhamra Art Gallery under the auspices of the Lahore Arts Council.
Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. The Governor formally inaugurated the calligraphic paintings exhibition by cutting the ribbon and then took a round with artist Ruheena Malik and other art lovers.
Ruheena Malik while conversing with the chief guest said “The Art of calligraphy was gifted to me by Almighty LahoreLahoreALLAH, The Al-Musawwir. Calligraphy is my passion, my soul and my very existence”.
The interesting and impressive exhibition of calligraphy, Treasures of Islamic Art, commenced on July 9 and was to continue for eleven days till July 19.
An Art Research Gallery has finally been established at the Arts and Design College, formerly, Fine Arts Department, of the Punjab University at the Old Campus.
LahoreAn exhibition of paintings of Samia Zaheer marked the formal inauguration of the research oriented gallery by Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran.

Scholars from UK
Lecture on “Islam in the 21st Century—The Struggle Within” was held under the aegis of the University of Management and Technology at the Iqbal Complex.
Noted religious scholar, President of the European Muslims Network, Brussels (Belgium) and Professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Oxford, Britain, Dr Tariq Said Ramadan was the chief guest. He delivered the key note address urging unity among Muslim Ummah against aggression. Dr Rafique Ahmad, Abdul Ghaffar Ghaffari, Dr Rashid Kausar and Irfan Gilani also expressed their views.

Food for All
Prominent social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi was in the provincial metropolis for a few days to launch his new mission to collect funds for providing food for the poor and needy all over the country.
He started his charity collection campaign from the Mall and people of all ages and different walks of life responded in a very encouraging and positive manner.
Earlier addressing a press conference at the Nisar Osmani Auditorium of the Lahore Press Club, he outlined the objective of the ‘Bheek Mission’ and ruled out possibility of his meeting with PML (N) leader Nawaz Sharif and President/Provincial Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif while in town.
