If you know Ali Haider personally, you will definitely be familiar with his spiritual, devotional and patriotic thoughts. The soft spoken pop icon believes in diffusing the message of love and peace throughout the masses. Although the majority of his tracks usually speak of love, romance and betrayal, it's just recently that Ali has started to take social and moral issues very seriously. A social project that he did most recently was an anti-terrorism number, “Yeh Hum Naheen”, in collaboration with artistes like Strings, Haroon, Shafqat Amanat Ali, Hadiqa Kiani, Ali Zafar and Shuja Haider. When one takes a glance back at his past track list, one finds only a single patriotic track, “Tera Tera Mera Mera Pakistan” that featured in his smash hit album, Sandesa, to his credit. Ali's latest patriotic project is called “Jeeyay Mera Pakistan” which comes in the form of a video. My curiosity about the track grew because of the small number of national songs released this year. In addition to the collaborated National Anthem by GEO that featured more than a dozen artistes such as Hamid Ali Khan, Ali Azmat, Shazia Khusk, Faakhir, Shafqat Amanat Ali, the band members of Fuzon, Aaroh, Azal and others, only Saleem Javed came up with a patriotic number called “Salam Pakistan” featuring talented rapper JO-G.
”Jeeyay Mera Pakistan” is basically a prayer to Allah for the safety and prosperity of our beloved homeland. Ali Haider passionately sings lyrics that are soaked in the love of Pakistan. As he puts it, “I always wanted to do social and patriotic projects in addition to my regular music. This is just a start as there are many more in the pipeline.”
Musically, this is a catchy ethnic melody aided with classical instruments like subtle table and naal, captivating sarodh and mellow flute waves. M. Arshad has a done splendid job as far as the arrangements of the track are concerned. And as usual, Ali's sweet and charming vocals make sure that you're hooked to the track.
I especially love the video of the track that portrays the natural beauty of Pakistan. Nadeem Qazmi deserves applause for capturing breathtaking shots of the finest places of the country such as Badshahi mosque (Lahore), Shah Faisal Mosque (Islamabad), Bab-i-Khyber (Peshawar), Multan's famous tombs, Mazar-i-Quaid (Karachi) and the Northern Areas. The video is also an eye opener for many who believe that Pakistan is short on quality locations.
Interestingly, the video tagline reads Mohammad Ali Haider. So was it an editing error? Ali responds almost immediately, “Not at all! All my spiritual and motivational projects will be released by this name. For the rest, it's Ali Haider.” Will the change of name really help? Decide for yourself as you listen to “Jeeyay Mera Pakistan”.
Singh is Kinng – “Jee Karda”
What do you expect of a music album which features an army of fantastic artistes such as groundbreaking rapper Snoop Dog, Hard Kaur (Glassy fame), RDB (“Aja Mahi” fame), Daler Mehndi, Mika and many more? Simply awesome, isn't it? However, the surprise comes when one comes across Bhangra king, Labh Janjua, on the track called “Jee Karda”. The aforementioned track is one of Janjua's greatest hits to date and I was thrilled to see if it's the same number. But Suzie Q's sultry rap lines that ignite the show negated my prediction and the track turned out to be way better. The singer seems to be in top form as his sings moving lyrics like “Jee karda bhai jee karda/tenu kol bithawa jee karda”. The chorus humming “oye hoye/ balle balle/ shava shava” is catchy and the presence of desi instruments like the dhol makes this track an irresistible offering. The track is a perfect dance number engineered flawlessly to cater to wedding and club dance floors. So haven't you picked it for your wedding song list already?
Bachna Aey Haseeno – “Bachna Aey Haseeno”
I was eagerly looking forward to the music of YRF’s latest venture, Bachna Aey Haseeno, which promises to be yet another musical blockbuster and stars Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Bipasha Basu. Kicking off with traditional saxophone waves, the title track is undoubtedly the best track ever composed by the music director, Vishal Daldani. In an endeavor to mingle a brand new beat with R.D. Burman's miraculous touch, Daldani has hired the services of Kishrore Kumar's son, Sumit Kumar to deliver the vocals. Another highlight of the song is the infectious chorus that is masterfully mixed with stirring saxophone sounds. Sure winner this one!
