A wardrobe that is full of style, decency and class is the perfect wardrobe for a professional woman, but with summer almost here, it is a difficult time to dress at work because it is crazy-hot outside and everything from the colours to the prints you see around can either instantly make you feel calm or agitated. Above all, your work wardrobe should fill the requirement of your workplace; the right outfit will give you a boost of confidence which will result in better performance. Go through these rules to help you look the part and shine through

We all fall victim to bad days when getting dressed in the morning, but remember that what you wear says something to your co-workers about you. And while overdressing isn't necessary to make a great statement, stay away from anything torn, stained, or too revealing. A good fit is really important and a basic requirement when dressing for anything. Investing in simple-but-chic starter pieces will make styling up even easier and fun. Dress your simple t-shirt or kurti with a vest, jacket, or even an extra top as that can help give an edge to your look. While bold colours and graphic prints are always good-to-go, it is possible to go overboard. Try maintaining a balance with staples like a white button-down shirt or minimal flats. Too often women either have to compromise on their looks or comfort while dressing up. It is almost impossible to find a pair of heels that can get you through the day with blister-free feet. Invest in a good pair of shoes; remember that comfort should always come first. A certain level of decency is required at work at all times because you don't want anyone to get a wrong impression. You will be spending hours at your office so it is important to set things right from the beginning. Avoid any tops with a plunging neckline or straps too thin to offer coverage.

Bright and bold prints can seem threatening to style with, but once you understand them, mixing and matching is actually pretty easy. Aim for layering prints in a similar colour palette but with different sizes to avoid taking it too over-the-top. Work should be relaxing and fun too and not just be always about being dressed formally; sweatshirt or sandals can be appropriate for work too. Take your favourite pick and look for elevated versions – think simple cuts, chic embellishments, and luxe fabrics to take them up a notch. There is nothing better and helpful (and stylish at the same time) than a good tote that can carry everything you need without looking like a packing box, so that is one thing everyone should invest in. If you like wearing a cool pair of jeans to work, darker wash can be great for an elevated feel, and try out styles like flares or trouser cuts for added sophistication.

Whether you like it or not, the way you look plays a role in your success in the modern workplace. The problem with appearance is that it translates to performance. Even if your boss doesn't think that they're thinking any less of you, they will subconsciously think it. When you don't fit in, as in you stand out because of your bad fashion sense, you are not as accepted and welcomed. And at some point, this could hurt your chances of getting ahead.
In today's workplace, where casual wear is becoming increasingly popular, it can be tricky to understand the rules of appearance. Make sure your glasses fit properly and aren't sliding down your nose. You don't want to be playing with them all the time, this becomes distracting. This might surprise you, but anything that anyone else can smell too much off of you is not good. To get an idea of whether someone can smell you or not, ask someone you trust, and do NOT wear a strong perfume or cologne.

Too often people judge others by how tidy there desk is, how organised there purse is. Trust us, you don't want your personal things peeping out of your purse either. Keep your bag clean on the inside, especially if it doesn't have a zipper or any kind of enclosure, which allows others to catch a glimpse inside from time to time. Also, do not carry knapsacks or school backpacks unless you are a photographer who needs to transport camera equipments, or something like that. It makes you look like a school kid. Pay attention to your colour choices; darker colours usually convey a stronger impression than lighter ones. However, light colours can make you appear cool minded, open and friendly. If you are giving a presentation, make sure the colour you are wearing doesn't blend in with the ground behind you. Accessories are meant to do so many things for your entire look, but most importantly, they should complement your outfit, not overpower it. Your jewellery shouldn't make noise as it can be really distracting. Think about it, your boss is talking to you and suddenly forgets what he is saying mid-sentence because your bangles keep making noise or earrings keep dangling. That is just uncomfortable and scary!

Just keep in mind – not only is wearing inappropriate clothing distracting, it can also give off an inaccurate impression. Avoid too-short hemlines, too-tall heels, plunging necklines. You can wear a V-neck shirt, but make sure you keep your legs covered. People end up discrediting themselves by looking too provocative.
