Fatima Murtaza Bhutto, a poet and a writer is the granddaughter of former Premier Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, niece of assassinated Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and daughter of Murtaza Bhutto. Whispers of the Desert – her first publication brought her to public notice. With no interest in joining Pakistan’s politics, Fatima was born in Kabul to an Afghan woman, Fauzia Fasihuddin Bhutto. Her parents soon divorced and Fatima spent her childhood touring with her father. Murtaza later married Ghinwa, whom Fatima considers to be her political mentor. She completed her B.A in Middle Eastern Studies from Barnard College, Columbia University. A memoir she has penned, Songs of Blood and Sword is one of her most renowned books.
