A Traditional Affair
One thing that Pakistani fashion prides itself on is the infusion of its culture into the folds of fabrics. In menswear, particularly, when options are limited, local designers come up with the same old styles in metamorphosed forms. The perennial sherwani is a symbol of elegance that has time and again reinforced its presence in men's wardrobes. Whether it is the Rajasthan-inspired prints on the fabric, or sleek contemporary cuts, the sherwani remains a resilient component in men's formal wear. One reason for this is the cut of its collar. The sherwani collar is straight cut, has a low-rise, and is the identity of this ensemble. So strong is its presence that it has been tried and tested in other forms too, you have seen simple shirts with the sherwani collar, and have also seen it incorporated in kurtas. Whether the latter are formal wear or casual, kurtas commonly sport the same collar, with just minor differences in its width. For a formal event, such as the grand wedding of course, a sherwani with the right amount of embellishments, embroidery and threadwork go just fine. On the other hand, if it is not your wedding, the minimal embroidery on the collar, the button placket, and the cuffs are perfect. Don a kurta that is pleated or boasts a texture like that of the corduroy's, and the ensemble's formal appeal will multiply manifolds.
