This letter is regarding unhygienic food being sold on pavements and other public places. The sale of unhygienic eatables is going unchecked by the authorities concerned, and as a result contagious diseases like cholera, typhoid and gastroenteritis are on the rise. These eateries which have mushroomed at every nook and corner of the city, never care to serve hygienic food. Moreover, the food is not properly covered after cooking and contaminated water is mostly used. The dust and smoke emitted by vehicles make these roadsides a bad place for cooking and selling food. I urge the Food Quality Control Department to deal with this issue on urgent basis.
Traveling in public buses is a daily ordeal for women commuters due to lack of availability of adequate space in the female compartment. Sometimes women also have children with them who take up the extra space in the compartment, and to make matters worse, men too sit in the ladies' section which is very distressing for women. I request the traffic authorities to look into this issue which is a cause of great inconvenience for female commuters.
Pillion riding on motorcycles has taken a whole new form. Sometimes we see two to three teenagers sitting behind a motorcycle rider, and sometimes an entire family of four to five people is seen riding on the bike together. This clearly depicts a careless attitude towards traffic safety. Riding bikes in this manner, particularly when no one except the motorbike driver is wearing the helmet is a serious risk. Moreover, women are more vulnerable to serious injuries while riding pillion because most of them sit sidesaddle which makes it difficult to maintain balance. There is a strong need for a law which makes helmets compulsory for pillion riders to prevent lives from being lost in road accidents.
Drugs' Supply Facilities
Soft Drinks – A Health Hazard
It is imperative that a certain temperature should be maintained while supplying medicines to medical stores for efficacy. Excessive heat, direct sunlight and moisture can seriously affect drugs' efficacy. In Pakistan, we experience extremely hot weather, hence it's really important to maintain the required temperature by carrying medicines in air-conditioned vehicles. However, things get complicated as most of the medical stores do not have cold storage facilities due to which medicines become ineffective. The authorities concerned should take necessary steps to ensure that medicines are supplied to the stores while maintaining the required temperatures.
The consumption of soft drinks in our society has lately risen to a great extent. People consuming these drinks love them for their fizzy taste and flavours, but what they are ignorant of are the harmful effects these drinks leave on their health, especially on children among whom soft drinks are quite popular. Some studies suggest they run risks of bone and tooth decay due to the low pH level of these drinks. It is my request to the management of all the schools and colleges to completely ban the sale of all sorts of soft drinks in their canteens in order to prevent children from its excessive consumption.
MAG – Appeals To All!
I picked up MAG at a friend's place four years ago, since then my love for it is ever increasing. Over the years, it gave me tips on career-building, parenting, fashion, health and fitness. Even after so many years, I still look forward to each issue with eagerness and excitement. It's a complete magazine, presented in a format that appeals to all. Good job guys!
