Morning Shows
Today's morning shows clearly lack in aim, execution and most importantly content. It would not be wrong in saying that they are misleading our nation - especially women. Most of these shows are based on supernatural themes or theme-based weeks like wedding weeks in which extravagant celebrations make people to spend more on such functions in their real lives. Similarly, in these supernatural themed shows 'ghost experts' reveal their dark powers by calling some phantom and try to prove its presence. The purpose of airing such mindless shows is inconceivable. The editorial boards of these shows should put a stop to such ludicrous theme-based programs which do not fall in entertainment nor educational category.

Say No To Dowry
Dowry is one such custom being practised in our country that should be completely abolished. The parents of a girl spend their lifelong earnings to marry their daughter off. Many times they take loans from the banks or borrow money from their relatives or friends to meet the demands of the bridegroom's family without knowing their daughters fate. Unfortunately, the girl is often sent back to her parents' home due to insufficient dowry. The practise to put pressure on girl's parents to give dowry is against Islamic teachings. Hence we all should condemn this existing custom.

Women In Politics
It bodes well for the future of a society that encourages freedom of speech to women. Unlike many other countries where women have still to attain the equal status, Pakistan is perhaps one of the few fortunate countries where women had to struggle less for entering into the political arena. For instance, Begum Rana Liaquat Ali, Begum Shaista Ikramullah and many more. Moreover, Pakistan also had the privilege to have a woman as its prime minister and Speaker of the National Assembly. Hence the future looks bright and promising for Pakistani women.

Mehdi Hassan – A Legend Lost
I would like to pay tribute to our legend Mehdi Hassan whose recent demise left the whole nation into a state of deep sorrow. He had a unique melodious voice and he was in the league of great singers such as Lata, Mohammad Rafi, Ustad Amanat Ali Khan and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. He was a master of ghazal singing and each word of the ghazal he sang transformed into a fascinating melody and touched the strings of the heart. It is sad that he left us so soon but he will remain one of ours and a legendary asset for all of us. Mehdi Hassan will remain alive in people's hearts for centuries to come.

Snatching At Traffic Signals
A common feature of the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi is robberies committed at gun point during severe traffic jams. One such location is the SITE area. The said area experiences massive traffic jams almost every day and the working lot is often deprived of their valuables on gun point. Criminals are seen roaming in the area and they manage to flee very easily after committing each bid. I have also been a victim of one such incident. Unfortunately, despite frequent occurrence of these incidents, police turn a blind eye to these happenings. I request the authorities concerned to take a look into this serious issue.
