Ritu Beri
Ritu Beri, the protégé of the French master embroider, Francois Lesage, launched her label in 1990. Beri was the first Indian designer to present in Paris in July 1998, after successful showings in Beijing, New Delhi, Mauritius, Washington, Morocco, Russia, Nairobi, Cairo, etc. Ritu Beri is a name to reckon with on the Parisian catwalk and retails in high-end fashion stores worldwide.
At Bridal Asia 2008 her collection was about opulence and elaborate silhouettes, exuding a youthful charm yet retaining the feel of sensuality and grandeur. The spirit was intrinsically feminine, romantic and a bit flamboyant with embroidered bouquets and cascades of flounces, ruffles and gathers. Metallic embroidery, interestingly blended with bright coloured sequins and Swarovski crystals, evokes subtle touches of light. Feather-weight and rich fabrics like chiffon, organza, silk, tulle and lace were embellished to create magical options for the bride.
The simple elegance of these creations belied their technical complexity and the savvy construction of draping. Silhouettes played up contrast, with cuts varying from body skimming to empire waist and floor length dresses; bustier dresses embroidered with metallic work, flowers and sequins descend into full skirts.
