FASHION EXTRAVAGANZA
by SUMEHA KHALID
Fashionably draped guests, scurrying models and harried designers defines the recent fashion evening best. A coming together of talented young artists Fashion Carnival promised to be a treat. But the two-hour delay certainly did not go in favour of the organisers who should be well equipped to start the show on time. And so at 11 pm the show kicked off.
The evening was all about showcasing the western creations of the featured designers namely Nazia Malik, Ayesha Ibrahim, Obaid Sheikh, Ameena Yasmeen (Mansoor) and Faryal Hussain.
In a bid to bring forth the designs that are exported, each designer had worked up an all-western line showcasing some of their best ware. Nazia Malik's collection was mostly in ferozi blue, red and black hues. Her formals and semi formals bore straight, smart cuts with a smattering of embellishments in some cases. The outfits had a touch of tradition to them with the designer employing Sindhi embroidery and other such adornments to her creations. Nazia's collection comprised cocktail dresses and updated versions of ponchos.
Obaid had worked with the colour beige, a colour that does wonders on the red carpet. He sent down the runway his elaborate formal party wear. While Faryal's was more a fusion line than an all-western one. Ayesha had gone the funky way opting for skirts teamed with tops besides some sexy ball gowns.
Mansoor Akram of Ameena Yasmin had conjured an all angrezi-bridal line replete with frills and flounces. Definitely very formal.
The ramp was a simple affair in white with multi screens adorning the backdrop. DJ Asif had worked hard at creating a simple yet effective ramp. The show was choreographed by Muneera. Aliya Tipu had done a good job of beautifying the models. “I had worked on a deeper look both for the lips and eyes; deep shades of lilac basically,” says Aliya about the kind of look she had chosen for her models. A colourful show for sure!
