‘I Learnt To Handle Emotions From SRK’
Karan Johar has not only managed to get T’ Town’s most successful pair back on screen, his film My Name Is Khan has also generated much excitement, thanks to the storyline, the SRK controversy and then Karan himself saying that he is attempting a totally different genre this time.
How has Shah Rukh influenced you as a person?
I’ve learnt a lot from him over the years, especially how to handle emotional situations that come with our job. He is pragmatic yet very soulful. I have tried to emulate and incorporate his qualities into my life.
Do you think SRK-Kajol will be able to recreate the glory of their DDLJ days?
My Name Is Khan reflects a totally different syntax and tone. I just know Shah Rukh-Kajol were the best choice for this film. I always had them in mind even while penning down the script.
Who would fit in SRK-Kajol’s shoes in today’s generation?
I don’t think you can ever replace brilliance. No one can ever take their place!
Why will the non-SRK fan want to see this film?
I hope they come for me even if they’re not fans of actors. And if not fans of me either… I still hope and pray that they see this film (laughs)!
How do you react when people say SRK’s airport crisis was a publicity stunt?
Eight months ago we were accused of it being a publicity stunt. Does the world think that Shah Rukh and I have the power to play with the US internal security?
What is your best memory while shooting MNK?
Every moment I spent with Shah Rukh and Kajol was special. We’ve had great history in the past right from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. We just re-lived that, a joy eight years later. Having said that, there is an in-house joke I will share with you. We have this perception that whenever Kajol trips and falls on the sets we have a hit. So this time also we were anxiously waiting for her to fall. She actually tripped and fell on the last day and instead of helping her, all of us applauded her… Can you imagine?
