The second Dia De Muertos Collectible Doll launched by Mattel

NOT JUST A DOLL

Mattel has unveiled a second collectible Día De Muertos Barbie ahead of the Mexican holiday on Nov 1, marking another push for diversity and inclusion by the iconic toy manufacturing company. The doll, created by Mexican-American designer Javier Meabe, is a celebration of the tradition, during which families remember those who have died with flower-covered altars, colourful parades, elaborate meals and more. The doll is wearing a blush-coloured lace dress, embellished with pearls and floral embroidery, and her face is painted in a skull design. The collectable item retails for $75, also has large gold earrings and a crown braid adorned with pink flowers. In a press release, Meabe said the rose represents emotions and moments in life including celebrations, birth, death, passion, and love. He said, "As a Mexican American Designer, it was important to me to use my creative voice to design a doll that celebrates the bright colors and vivid textures of my culture, as well, as have the traditions I grew up with represented and celebrated in Barbie.”

Funko Pop celebrates nurses and doctors amid the COVID-19 pandemic with new figurines

Funko Pop is recognising a new type of hero. The popular collectibles brand has launched a collection of healthcare worker figurines to honour those on the frontlines during the coronavirus pandemic. The figurines feature four men and women in scrubs and lab coats wearing face masks. They’ve been added to the brand’s Pop! Heroes line, which includes well-known heroic characters like Superman, Wonderwoman, and Batman. The collectibles are available for pre-order on Amazon and expected to ship on October 30. Funko Pop announced the collection in May and made a donation to non-profit organisation GlobalGiving in association with the launch. GlobalGiving is an international crowdfunding platform that works with partners in 76 countries to help provide everything from personal protective equipment to meals in local communities. The brand launched a similar collection honouring firefighters in February when wildfires were burning through Australia. The limited-edition figurines helped benefit wildlife that was injured during the fires.
