A hand pulled 18th-century printing press is being used to print souvenir copies of The Virginia Gazette at Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, United States. Set up by Williams Park in 1730, The Virginia Gazette was published weekly from 1736 to 1750. A two-person team would run the labour intensive printing press that includes a compositor and pressman to produce a one-page weekly newspaper which required 24 hours of manual labour and a 14-hour work day. Thomas Jefferson’s “Ideas on American Freedom”was first printed on a similar hand-pulled press.
