Javed Miandad

Major leaguer

Born on June 12, 1957 in Karachi, Javed Miandad was a right-hand batsman and his bowling was mostly limited to a leg-break googly. Even though the world has seen several amazing batsmen like him, but very few are as combative as Javed. No match was over, no contest won for the opposition till Miandad was at the crease. He had that extraordinary ability of getting under the fielding side’s skin while standing to bat on the pitch and hated losing more than anything else. In his autobiography he confessed that defeats literally brought tears to his eyes. Javed retired with the most runs for Pakistan and his career average never dropped below the 50-mark. He was the first to play six editions of the World Cup and scored six hundreds when Pakistan brought home the World Cup in 1992. He was the youngest cricketer to slam a double-hundred and hit a six off the last ball by Chetan Sharma of a match in the Austral-Asia Cup final of 1986 – one of the most memorable moments in cricket history.
