Spring in your Step

Our feet carry the weight of our body every day but we usually tend to ignore them till we notice a corn, callosity, fungal infection or some other kind of discomfort associated with them. To make sure your feet remain smooth, pain and infection free, cultivate these maintenance habits on a regular basis.

Have a medical pedicure once a month

Medical pedicures allow the feet to breathe easy so you can walk effortlessly. It is different from a regular pedicure because it is dry and does not cause fungal infections, but only treats them. It is also useful for people with hyperkeratosis foot problems which involves thickening of the skin’s outer layer. However, the procedure must be done by a specialist who is trained in podiatry. Regular water pedicures are often responsible for causing fungal infections because the whirlpool action can cause fungus to harbour for a longer period of time.

Do foot reflexology every night before bedtime

It heals the feet by stimulating pressure points in the sole and relieves pain and tension throughout the body. These areas and reflex points correspond to different body organs and systems hence, pressing them will have a beneficial effect on your overall health.

Walk barefoot for a few minutes every day

One of the most obvious benefits of walking barefoot is that it develops a connection to the earth and its magnetic field. It has been proved theoretically that our body is conductive to the earth and vice versa. The earth is full of negative ions hence walking barefoot floods these negative ions from our body, this improves quality of sleep. Walking barefoot also stimulates the nerves and pressure points on the bottom of the foot which can help bring chi energy and improves overall posture.

Ditch the heels

Limit the use of very high heels and ensure your feet are often well-ventilated. Avoid closed shoes as it may create a moist environment that harbours bacteria, fungus and sweaty smell.
