Director Luv Ranjan lives in the world of either good or bad – just like in Pyaar Ka Punchnama 1 and 2, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety also centers around the lives of bechara men and a cunning woman which is his version of the universe. He might not be wrong because some of the many men out there complain of controlling girlfriends and scheming wives – this film caters to those men who love to stay alone than committed because they simply aren’t made for marriage.

The film is all about Bromance vs Romance as suggested by the trailer – Titu (Sunny Singh) is the kind of guy who cries after a fight with his girlfriend; Sonu (Kartik Aaryan) is the one who advises him to break the relationship, hence the savior. Enters Sweety (Nushrat Bharucha) who not only sweeps Titu off his feet but also plans to sweep Sonu away from their lives. Hence begins the war between the bestie and the ‘sweety’ where both have their own agendas and good intentions but they both know that one will win and the other will lose. The background score is to die for here since it makes its entry near interval and every time you hear it, you unintentionally want to feel good and root for the guys.

The film belongs to Sonu and Sweety who show the audience the reality behind weddings. Sonu comes out as the friend we all need to have while Nushrat is perfect as the sly girlfriend; Sonu and Titu’s relationship will give you friendship goals, although Titu is shown too dependent on his friend. The surprise package of the film is, however, veteran actor Alok Nath, who curses in front of his grandkids, drinks alcohol openly and smokes cigarettes without letting his wife know. Remember, before this film he has never done such a thing in his three-decades old career, breaking the taboo in his own way. For Hindi movie buffs, this film might seem a new generation take on Hum Aapke Hain Kaun where a happy family gathered for a wedding – here the gathering is more or less the same but far away from happy. •
