Films that try to bank on the success of bigger and similarly titled projects often fall flat and Veerey Ki Wedding manages to give Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Veere Di Wedding a boost by being mediocre, pathetic and a waste of money all at the same time. The only A-list actor in the film is Jimmy Shergill who desperately tries to save the sinking ship but when you cast actors for their pay scale (cheap, that is) instead of their acting prowess, you get films that bring a bad name to Bollywood. It is one of those films that shouldn’t have been released in the first place because it comes out as an amateur attempt at filmmaking that does good to no one.

Veerey Ki Wedding is the story of one Veer (Pulkit Samrat) who is so rich that he can leave rich people behind; he is sort of Robin Hood-like Salman Khan which makes him loved by all. Even the police know that if Veer is involved in an incident such as a robbery, then he must have done that for a reason (duh!). Geet (Kirti Kharbanda) is the only girl Veer cares about but since her father Gopi Bhalla (Satish Kaushik) is against the use of force, hence he is against Veer who despite being an eligible bachelor is still a bachelor. The fathers of both the sides collide on numerous occasions but in a civil manner until Veer’s elder cousin Balli (Jimmy Shergill) hears about the incident and decides to take matters into his own hand. Things turn to worst as Balli bhaiyya enters the frame and supposedly, the audience had to laugh at his antics but they did on their choice of films.

Pulkit Samrat may look like Salman Khan but he isn’t Salman Khan – the sooner he learns that the better. Jimmy Shergill is the most underrated actor of this generation but he needs to be choosy than doing all kinds of films. It is about time that veteran actor Satish Kaushak should reconsider the offers that come his way; he was good as Calendar in Mr India and Pappu Pager in Deewana Mastana but that’s a thing of the past. Since then, he has been fooling around trying to capture his glory days and this film is one such (pathetic) attempt. The rest of the cast has nothing to offer except for fooling around, trying to look like acting. The biggest disappointment was, however, the writer Dilip Shukla who is known to give hits every now and then. His portfolio includes movies like Ghayal, Mohra, Andaz Apna Apna, Dabangg 1 & 2 as well as Damini and when such a writer tries his hand at a quick-fix of a movie, Veerey Ki Weddings takes place. •
