This latest play to grace Pakistani television screens has been penned by the renowned novelist and playwright Amna Mufti. The stellar cast, comprising of Nadia Khan, Hina Bayat, Khalid Anum, Shahim HiIali and others, comes together to highlight domestic violence against women and the pros and cons of the recently enacted women’s protection bill. Zann Mureed is the story of a woman who refuses to live in fear, rising above societal pressure to fight for her rights, but in doing so, loses her loved ones due to social stigmas and the flaws in our judicial system.

PIFF aims to empower young film-makers

Pakistan International Film Festival, under the banner of Karachi Film Society organised a three-day Digital Storytelling Workshop in Karachi. The PIFF team went throughout schools and universities in the city to find passionate students wanting to be part of the initiative. 30 students were selected from institutions such as University of Karachi, Habib University, Indus Valley, SZABIST and Iqra University. Marginalised communities, such as Lyari and Machh Goth Hub, were also visited in order to access a diverse group of students who are eager to expand their horizons, in an effort to make the workshop more accessible. A highly experienced panel, comprising of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Nadeem Beyg, Sarmad Khoosat and others, groomed the participants on various aspects of film-making where they learnt how to write, direct, shoot and edit under the guidance of the industry professionals. The students were divided into groups and were tasked to make short films which were screened on the concluding day of the workshop.
