Q: Could you please tell me what could be causing stains on my nails. I am 32 years old and have recently noticed white blotches on my nails. Please help! Rahim

A: Dear Rahim, change in nail colour could be an indication of a health issue, and it is advised that you get a regular health check up done with your doctor. A general physician too would be able to identify if there is a health concern or a dermatologist related problem.

Q: Hi! I am 29 years old and have extremely oily hair. No matter how many times I wash my hair during the week, they are still very greasy. Can you suggest some medicines for it and what kind of shampoo shall I use? Parisa

A: Dear Parisa, you need to get your hormones checked and make sure that the level of oil secretion on your scalp is normal, if not then you need to get it checked by a dermatologist. If everything is fine, then you may consider changing your shampoo. Recommending medicines without a thorough checkup is not the right thing to do, which is why it is advised that you see a doctor.

Q: I am 19 years old and often get bitten by bed bugs. However, as a result of itching I end up scratching my skin, which leaves ugly bite marks behind. Please tell me if they can be treated or not? Seema

A: Dear Seema, normally, one does not need a treatment to get rid of these marks; they tend to disappear with time. However, scratching might result in infection, so it’s better to consult a dermatologist. With prescription of oral antihistamines and steroid creams, the itching would go away and will help heal the infected marks.
