Pakistan’s win at PSL final in Karachi

The much awaited PSL final took place in Karachi last week with absolute fervour and excitement. Crowds flocked to the National Stadium amidst strict security sending a message to the world about the passion Pakistanis have for the game of cricket. The final match of PSL provided Karachiites with the opportunity to welcome international cricketers to the city of lights. The day will always be remembered as a historic one, be it in the history of revival of international cricket in the country or the history that Karachi as a city is proud to boast. Even though the match was held between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United, Karachi and its people welcomed the two teams with open arms, making the match a memorable sports event.

World Water Day

The world recently celebrated ‘World Water Day’ and one cannot stress enough on the importance of freshwater. The day saw many sustainable organisations propagate the message of employing nature to overcome the challenges of water shortage. It was all about focusing on the significance of water and coming up with solutions to save freshwater for the future generations. With drastic climate changes and the deteriorating situation of ecosystems, the world is moving towards a disastrous situation, leaving the present, as well as future generations vulnerable to the dangers of water shortage. It is high-time we consider it an individual issue and begin to save water from the comfort of our homes, making earth a healthy, sustainable and liveable planet for future generations.

Cleanliness drive at Hawke’s Bay

Hawke’s Bay is one of the most visited beaches in Karachi where citizens from various parts of the city arrive to spend their weekend in peace. However, while one plans to visit the beach for relaxation and breathe fresh air, heaps of garbage throughout the seashore puts their plans to rest. I happened to visit the beach a few days ago and was delighted to see a group of school children picking up all the garbage along the coastline as part of a cleanliness drive at the beach. I, along with my children decided to give them a helping hand and play a small role in this good deed. It is not just the government’s responsibility to ensure cleanliness at public places. In fact, the public – that instead of using trashcans throws rubbish on the beach – should avoid littering public spaces too.

The need for a green environment

Those who have lived their entire life in Karachi would know the hustle bustle of city, along with all it offers including the growing menace of pollution. Three of my past generations have lived in Karachi but I, after the birth of my first born decided to move out of this city to a better, greener one instead. It was a difficult decision to make but one has to take certain complex decisions to save their future generations, providing them with an opportunity to live and breathe in a better environment. Keeping in mind the incontrollable pollution of Karachi, I moved to Islamabad for the safe and healthy environment. I would gladly return to Karachi once those in authority do something to make the city greener and safer for our children to reside.
