While many electric cars come with fairly hefty price tags, a new electric vehicle costs just £7,500 - and is 3D printed. The LSEV takes just three days to print, and bares a close resemblance to a Smart car.

The tiny car, which was designed by XEV Limited, has a range of 93 miles on a single charge, although it can only reach top speeds of 43 miles/hour.

Polymaker, the firm printing the car, builds the body of the car from plastic, but uses regular materials for the engine and chassis.

The car is made from 60 individual parts - significantly less than the 2,000 seen in normal cars, which makes it quicker and easier to assemble.

While you might worry that a plastic car wouldn’t be safe, XEV Limited assures that an additional filler has been added that increases strength, and would absorb the impact in the event of a collision.

By 3D printing the vehicle, production costs could be reduced by as much as 90 per cent, according to XEV Limited. The company hopes to have printed six cars by the end of July, but says that as many as 20,000 models could be on sale in Europe and Asia by the end of next year.
