‘ARTISTS HAVE A HUGE ROLE IN PORTRAYING A POSITIVE IMAGE OF THEIR COUNTRY’


Through the support of the Cultural Department of Sindh Government and Ministry of Information of the Federal Government of Pakistan, and the collaboration of many other partners, Karachi Film Society was able to host the first ever Pakistan International Film Festival in the city of lights. The four-day festival concluded with a closing ceremony at the Frere Hall, where keynote speaches were given on the importance of such festivals and collaborations between Pakistan and other countries. In the presence of artists from Pakistan, India and a few other countries, the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and chief guest of the night, Marriyum Aurangzeb shared, “Artists have a huge role in portraying a positive image of their country and promoting tolerance in the society. I would like to appreciate the Karachi Film Society for hosting the Pakistan International Film Festival and congratulate all the members of KFS and participants of PiFF for making this festival a huge success.”

The adress was followed by an awards ceremony where documentaries, short films, feature films, actors and others were awared for their work. The winners were selected by a panel of jury and included Mehwish Hayat, Fahad Mustafa, Sahir Ali Bagga, Nadeem Baig, Mehreen Jabbar, Mitesh Soni, Rana Kamran, Hania Amir, Ali Rehman Khan, Khalilur Rehman. Mahera Omer from Pakistan won for her feature documentary, Veil Done (an Indian short documentary) also won an award, and so did Aghai Nazem from Iran for best short film. A trophy was presented to Ali Zafar as well in a special category, naming him Artist for Peace. Sarwat Gillani, Alyy Khan, Azzfer Rehman, Ayesha Omar, Ahsan Khan, Amina Sheikh, and Sanam Saeed entertained the audience with their hosting skills. The event also featured an enthralling live performance by Abida Parveen and a fashion showcase, followed by dinner.
