Miuccia Prada

Major leaguer

Miuccia Prada is the head of Italian luxury fashion house Prada. She was born on May 10, 1949, in Milan, Italy and is the youngest granddaughter of Mario Prada, who started the label in 1913. Miuccia was once a mime student and a member of the Italian Communist Party, and happened to be an unlikely inheritor of her family business in 1978. She started getting popular in 1985 after unveiling her unique black nylon series of backpacks and handbags, and took the world of fashion by storm. Miuccia studied at the University of Milan and associated herself as a devoted feminist and completed her Ph.D. in political science. She got married to Patrizio Bertelli – a businessman and her partner – in 1978 and has two sons. Miuccia Prada is one individual who redefined fashion and turned Prada into the successful billion dollar brand it is today.
