And then there is Jackpot which should have stayed unreleased for the betterment of the audience. One doesn’t really understand why new and unknown directors waste money on scripts that will only entertain the frontbenchers in an era when multiplex has taken over single-screen cinemas. No one laughs at the toilet humour these days and if we continue to go on the same road, not many will remain in the audience because of these shitty jokes. Yes, the film has Jawed Sheikh, Sana Fakhar, TV stars Noor Hassan and Sanam Chaudhry in the cast but when the captain is incompetent, the whole team is bound to fail.

The film revolves around a coat (yes, you read it right!) that was home to a raffle ticket (so 1980s!) that was worth millions of rupees. There was a gangster Jojo (Jawed Sheikh) and his gang in pursuit of it but unknown to them, the dhobi had taken the coat for cleaning after it was torn (since when do drycleaners do the stitching?). Lucky (Noor Hassan) and his wife Chandni (Sanam Chaudhry) are the proud winners but when his whole family is kidnapped, Lucky doesn’t feel anymore lucky. Along with Pappu dhobi and his wife, Mr and Mrs Lucky help Jojo in tracing the coat that is in Phuket, Thailand, with a relative who only Mrs Dhobi aka Malika (Sana Fakhar) has seen.

The script by Babar Kashmiri is as trashy as it sounds – the once ace writer should be more careful because, in this modern era, reputation matters the most for a writer. Acting is compromised big time and the one-liners do not make any sense at all. There is hardly any direction in the film except in the editing section as the film is well-edited. Like It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, the director has tried to incorporate as many cameos as possible but sadly, the story is so stupid that the only thing you feel to laugh at is yourself.•
