MAG chats with the most successful ateliers across Pakistan to delve into what they have in store this Eid. Read on to know what’s haute and hyped-up this feisty season.

Mahgul Rashid

We ask Mahgul Rashid, the current creative director of Sapphire what unique elements she has infused in the brand’s Eid collection.

“Our latest collection, Naqsh Dar is inspired from traditional elements. From stitching to designs, we have made sure that each piece is evocative of the past with a feminine and subtle feel,” she says. “The use of extra-weft jacquard and Masuri net combined with gota and kiran is reminiscent of past. For me Eid is a reminder of days gone by and memories of how one celebrated it. We have attempted to make that effort in our stitching as a reminder to continue to celebrate!

According to Mahgul, the trendiest styling for the season is, “wearing longer shirts, churidars and shalwars. To complement the look, the trendiest accessories are khussas, jhumkas and baliyan; evergreen and classic just as Eid is and that's what we wanted to depict in our collection.”

Kamiar Rokni

Also known as “Kami” in the fashion fraternity, the designer needs no introduction. Spearheading the atelier The House of Kamiar Rokni, the maestro also happens to be the champion of high street style dressing.

Speaking about his brand’s fashion philosophy, the designer opines, “The House of Kamiar Rokni is about art, culture imagination and taking traditional crafts and reworking them for today.”

Maria Butt

Often called the Coco Chanel of Pakistan, the reputable brand and its founder started from the very scratch with just a few machineries to their disposal, but a plethora of promising talent. Today, Maria B ranks amongst the top fashion brands which excels in prêt a porter, couture, formal wear, lawn and embroidered fabrics.

“There is a blend of eastern and western in Maria’s collection for the season. “There is a hint of trendy where we went for a tulip shalwar with a loose kurta in pastels. Or we go for ghararas with short shirts, which exude traditional in bright tones or mid tones. In terms of the styling, I believe less is more. With your attire one must convey the essence of Eid, be it a chunri dupatta or bangles or khussas, everything adds to tradition and this is the spirit we want to keep alive at Maria B.”

Further adding, Maria says, “Eid is that time of the year where suddenly everyone goes traditional, feminine and soft. As a designer, I keep in mind that the consumers of my brand are waking up to the most family and religion oriented festival and, they need to dress accordingly for that, to bask themselves in the eastern decadence.”

Huma Adnan

On the forefront of fashion scene in Pakistan, Huma Adnan is a force to be reckoned with.

We asked about the unique elements she has crafted into her collection this Eid, Huma answers, “I have tried to showcase the progressiveness of our country’s women through my craft and I would like to see them as confident and as happy as the country right now. It’s all about the Naya Pakistan.” Huma has been promoting refugee artisans through their handmade jewellery and other crafts trough a joint initiative between her and the UNHCR.

We also asked her about the most hyped-up and trendiest styling for this season’s festivities. “This Eid will be more about how you style yourself with choori (bangles), teeka and all the works. Even if it’s a plain outfit, it can be styled with heavy accessories.”

Zaheer Abbas

Ace designer Zaheer Abbas after catering to a niche clientele for many years has made a successful transition from runway to retail. He’s the one to woo wearers of his work with his distinctive and well-designed collections. It was imperative to have his say on the design elements he has breathed into his craft. “We have focused on revival of hand embroidered tankas, especially marori,” says Zaheer, talking about his collection. “Our fashion philosophy is simplicity,” he adds.

According to the fashion maestro, the most hyped-up and trendiest styling for this Eid season is, “a neatly tied braid with jhumkas and gold bangles.”
