FALLING FOR AUTUMN

As the summer cools off and gusts of chilly winds instils the evening air, fashion journos get to work, scrutinising the fall trends for the season. Autumn 2018 promises a batch of surprises, fresh ideas and a lot of borrowing from British heritage trends. Read on!

Layering for lair

Drop in temperatures will warrant the feeling of snug, warm and chic. Thus the season allows you to layer your key attire with as many you wish, without questioning the current status quo of styling. Have faith in your separates, capes, coats, mufflers and coveralls, but remember, contrasting is king. You can simplify the styling by just adding a thick coat over a thinner one in a contrasting colour. That’s snug!

Animal magic

Sometimes, you need a thicker and more fashionable skin to ward off winter advances. Python, zebra, cheetah, croc and more animal prints roamed free and wild across the catwalk shows this season and you should take hint. Don on prints from the jungle, splicing together as many patterns as a single look can allow. Patterned python is really calling the shots this time.

New neon

Subtlety was characteristic of old-school. Go bold and high on new neons this season. Keep in mind the hues should be fruitier, with watermelon, lemon and lime making for a delicious palette for you to take to the streets. Neons can be worn as a stand-out pop of colour amongst a navy, black, grey or beige outfit.

Brown and plum, are officially the new black

Matte or glossy, shades of deep plum indisputably remain the hues of winter.
It also beckons the return of fall’s brown, the rustic colour of the tree’s bark is where the inspiration is taken from. From tan to sludge, all you need to do is find the right hue for you, or go tonal in a top-to-toe effect. Think of acing a perfect brown blend; mix a glossy chocolate leather coat with a peanut satin shirt, and tweed trousers.

Cash the cashmere

Because when else would you? We all own at least one or two pairs of cashmere sweaters or coats, which are cool to throw on and hit the door. Cashmere makes for the winter’s ultimate capsule collection.
Favour dark hues – mauve, plum, dark blue or burgundy.

Leather lure

The most dominant of all fabrics of fall season is leather which morphs by way of skirts, trousers and trench coats. It doesn't have to be in black either. Fashion runways have served up coats in petrol green and even butterscotch-coloured leather. Whether it’s a jacket, a skirt or a coat, it is time for some leather-loving.
