The 61st BFI London Film Festival recently took place amidst much fanfare at the Banqueting House, Whitehall, London. The festival provided 246 films to be screened on its platform and gave way to a much diverse cinema featuring one-quarter of the total movies that were directed by women – a ratio not witnessed by any other film festival before. The 12-day film festival concluded with Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, a dark comedy which is being deemed as a strong contender at the Oscars. While an intense drama about a divorcing couple, Loveless, won the best picture prize at the festival’s awards ceremony. The festival also saw notable names speaking against the recent Harvey Weinstein controversy deeming it to be a condemnable reality. The festival featured glamorous celebrities and extravagant galas for other award juries to pick amongst celebrated movies such as The Shape of Water, The Florida Project and Battle of the Sexes that were screened at the eminent platform.
