HAUTE TRENDS FROM PARISIAN RUNWAYS

Behold! The highly anticipated fashion event of the year with press, stylists, bloggers and buyers descending on Paris in droves to view the latest collections from the fashion industry’s biggest and most important names. Here we look at some fresh Parisian trends which – in a matter of short time – will assimilate into our wardrobe.

Bejewelled in hue

Jewel tones were popular in just about every collection, and the vibrant colours made a perfect addition to the runways. This stunning azure blue skirt with a metallic top was just tip of the iceberg.

Specs appeal

Even if you have near-perfect vision, this season’s couture shows are guaranteed to make you want to invest in some facial furniture. For Chanel couture debut, the fashion house transformed the Grand Palais into the Chanel library where models walked past book shelves wearing bow-embellished Victoriana pumps and elegant spectacles.

Making a real case for librarian chic, the reading glasses came with both delicate gold and tortoiseshell frames and were paired with everything from high-necked Edwardian shirts to floral ballgowns.

Clinch Custody

The buckle belts were surprisingly simple and sophisticated, reminding us that you don’t have to sport crazy styles to make the look trendy. The accessory can easily add that fashion-girl touch to your outfits, as the imagery ahead proves. But it was one accessory that ruled the runways and the streets of the Parisian fashion days, it was belts. They popped up on the runways and on street style stars at the show. On the catwalk, models wore them over blazers and with trousers, and they came in a variety of colours and textures.

Eighties calling

Plenty of references to the late 80s were found, including a series of polka dot looks, shoulder-heavy blazers and peasant frocks But it was the accessories, like the oversized bows, bold statement earrings and silk rose hairpieces that really upped the ante.

Many brands epitomised the era with a black tuxedo worn with prom-style ruffled shirt and bow tie. Fantasy and glamour continued to permeate the collection with oversized ruffles and a metallic pink mini cocktail dress worn with polka dot high heels.

Bag it

Smaller hand-held bags continued to go strong on the Fall 2019 runways. From structured geometric shapes to tiny hoop handles, some of the most standout bags were those too special to simply sling over your shoulder. But for those who prefer to go hands-free, belt bags are here to stay too. Chanel and Dior introduced their IT bags in fanny pack form while other brands introduced more compact takes on the ramp. Exotic skins were also bagged to the runways this time. Elevate your look with the help of a luxe croc-embellished bag, done in everything from python-inspired textures to glam all-black box bags.

Billowing silhouettes

Billowing silhouettes have a rich history in the fashion world, and designers like an added touch of nobility to their couture looks by using the luxurious fabric for more dramatised, gone with the wind impact.

Metallic clink

Metallic certainly made their mark during couture fashion week, but trust more brands to flaunt some more glinting structures to take the trend up a notch, with sheer play, shimmery metallic jumpsuit and gowns.
