Twitter launching major events calendar

SOCIAL MEDIA NEWS

Twitter's event calendars not only pinpoint the major happenings, but also their respective tweet volume stats (based on previous years), which makes them particularly useful for planning out which you should be looking to tap into in order to maximise exposure. "Music fans will come to Twitter on August 18 to cheer for their favorites on the MTV Video Music Awards (#VMAs). Two days later, on August 20, gamers will follow and share updates from #GamesCom2019 – an annual gaming conference in Germany. For golf fans, Tweets covering the #USOpen will be in full swing August 26 – September 8, partially overlapping with the renowned #VeniceFilmFestival August 28 – September 7. And spanning the whole month: #BackToSchool prep." According to Twitter, this shall help users with strategic planning for the year ahead.

Facebook: Streaming and Video call device coming soon

According to a new report from The Information, Facebook has approached Netflix, Disney and other media companies in regards to porting their streaming services onto a new, TV-connected Facebook device. "The device, which Facebook is aiming to release this fall, will use the same video-calling technology that's in Facebook’s camera-equipped smart speaker, called Portal, which has a screen of its own and is designed to sit on kitchen counters and desks.[...] The new device, code-named Catalina, will also come with a physical remote and streaming video services similar to other television boxes like Apple TV. Facebook released its Portal video calling device last year, but thus far, response has been fairly lukewarm. Privacy concerns appear to be playing at least some role in this, which is an element Facebook will have to contend with over time – but as the company has also shown in the past, people are less concerned about privacy when the device/app/tool offers a higher level of utility.
