Pakistani short film Saya goes to Chicago Film Festival


The film Saya, makes its entry in the oldest film festival in the United States, the Chicago Film Festival. The story revolves around an unexpected conversation between a wealthy, American born, Pakistani Mem Saab and her new driver, Abdul Malik with the city of Karachi’s mysteries and fault lines taking physical form. In a press release, director Anam Abbas says, “Saya is a memory and a moment, a film that is both a shadow and about the shadows, exploring Karachi, its chaos, its beauty, its ghost stories, its land politics, and its women.” Anam Abbas is a producer, director and cinematographer. She is a founding member of the Documentary Association of Pakistan. She created the feminist web series, Ladies Only, and angry girl band Garam Anday.
