Facebook: New data access issue found in groups

SOCIAL MEDIA NEWS

The company has revealed that a flaw in its Groups API may have enabled up to 100 app partners to access group member information, like names and profile pictures, in connection with group activity. As explained by Facebook: "Before April 2018, group admins could authorise an app for a group, which gave the app developer access to information in the group. But as part of the changes to the Groups API after April 2018, if an admin authorised this access, that app would only get information, such as the group’s name, the number of users, and the content of posts. For an app to access additional information such as name and profile picture in connection with group activity, group members had to opt-in."

TikTok extends connection to third-party tools

If you're a brand that's looking to utilise TikTok for your marketing efforts, this will be welcome news. TikTok has announced the launch of its 'Share to TikTok' SDK, which will enable third-party apps to integrate directly with the rising app. That means that users of video editing apps like Adobe Premiere Rush will be able to upload videos direct to TikTok from the app's editing platform. As explained by TikTok: "This new Share to TikTok feature enriches the content available on TikTok, diversifies the types of videos users can discover, and offers more editing choices for users to explore in addition to TikTok's built-in creative tools. Most importantly, it gives users multiple avenues to create new original, high-quality content using platforms with exciting creative tools."
