Craft for a good cause

Sunday mornings with a wintery chill quickly settling in, has been creating quite the mood to shake off the slumber and enjoy the sun out in a time Karachi can do outdoors. I make for the Craft for a good caus carnival, a fund raiser for The Citizen Foundation and Narayan Jagannath Vaidya School, one of the oldest pre-partition institutes in Karachi, organised by Educate Through Colours (ETC) and supported by ICI Pakistan Ltd and their initiative Pehchan, Patex, Associated Commercial Agencies and Uni-Commerce Ltd. With vibrancy echoing on the premises with multicoloured umbrellas and plates, our favourite street food picks was a Sunday treat with excited kids running around indulging in games, and not on their phones. Students from both the schools attended the carnival in high spirits, and needless to say, most enjoyed jailing their friends in the jail and set up the bail. The sellables at the event included adorable stationary by Rijah Chappra, her personal venture of notebooks with quirky graphic printing but what stood out were coasters with illustrations from TCF students imprinted on them. An art competition was held between the students themed ‘Pakistan’, followed by an art workshop by Rahima Junaid. A sign language session was organised by Connect Hear, a yoga session by Haya Baig and a therapeutic workshop by Atiqa Naqvi. The aim of the fund raiser was to educate 100 children for one year and all the proceeds from the carnival were dedicated to TCF and NJV schools.
