Skin care in your 20s

When you are in your 20s, by this time you know your skin well. Whether it’s oily, dry or a combination, if it burns or tans in the sun, every person has a different skin type and there are specialised products for every skin type. The market is full of good and bad products, do your research before buying one for yourself, also do a patch test before you apply it on your skin. Read the instructions carefully.

If you are blessed with a problem free skin, your sole target is to maintain what you already have. Sun protection should be your priority, a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 30 or above will do, re-apply every two hours in case of sweating, also direct and prolonged sun exposure should be avoided. Using a wide brimmed hat and wearing UV tinted sunglasses will give you an added protection.

In case of oily skin, use a foaming or gel cleanser preferably containing salicylic acid, once or twice daily. You can carry facial tissues to blot excessive oil. For dry skin, milky cleansers and moisturiser work well. No matter how tired you are, sleeping with your makeup on is the biggest beauty crime. A simple facewash is never enough of get rid of a thick foundation base. Always use a proper makeup remover and cleanse your face before you go to bed. Don't share your products with others. Exfoliate gently once or twice a week. Night serums containing vitamin C or retinol might be added as a maintenance regime. In case of problematic skin, seek timely guidance from a dermatologist as prescription medicines work faster than OTC products. Your skin is precious and you have to wear it for the rest of your life. It deserves good care.
