MAG talks to Ismah Malik, CEO of Trimmers Salon, who aims to reinvent the beauty industry and customer experience. Malik has also been a voice creating awareness in the community about skin diseases and her chain of high-end salons has opened doors to the youth to join and discover their own talents in the field. How do you make your lipstick/ lipgloss last longer?

Apply lip primer or foundation before application.

Foundation application: Sponge, fingers or brush?

Brush for liquid foundation, otherwise fingers or sponge.

Cream or powder eye-shadow?

Cream. It is important to use a primer first and blend it properly.

Does exercise have any visible effect on the skin?

Yes, definitely. Brings out the glow, and circulation improvement is visible on your face.

What are some must-have beauty products in your gym bag for post-workout primping?

Cream products, no powder. Dry shampoo to get rid of oily hair from the workout.

You have only five minutes for makeup, how do you make it count?

Foundation applied with fingers to needed areas only. Single shade on the eyes, bronzer and lip gloss.

How bad is it really to sleep with your makeup on?

Very bad! Leads to clogged pores and the bacteria causes acne. Skin rejuvenates at night so it needs to breathe. Hence, take your makeup off girls!

Which elements of your job do you like the most?

Meeting people, learning new things and constant challenges keep me motivated!

How difficult is it to manage two careers at a time?

It is difficult but can be done. Dedication, time management and discipline is how I make it work.

Can I wear foundation every day? What can I do to not sweat it off?

Yes, as long as you are using the right product. Use primer and oil-free base to not sweat it off.

What has to be applied first, a blush or a highlighter?

Highlighter before blush to create a natural look.

Why does my foundation become flaky after application?

Moisturise and then use primer. The trick is to blend, blend and blend.

Your favourite home made mask for peak summer and dry winters?

For winter, aloe vera and almond oil. For summer, mint and turmeric.

Your go-to nail care routine?

Clean, cut and moisturise nails and cuticles. Buff, not colour and always apply a base coat. – Editorial Desk
