Academy Awards winning Parasite accused of plagiarism

Hot waters!

Academy Awards winning South Korean film Parasite, directed by Boon Joon Ho, has been accused of plagiarism. It was reported that the movie had copied a version of a Tamil film called Minsara Kanna, which was released in 1999. Minsara Kanna’s film producer PL Thenappan accused director Bong Joon-Ho of story theft. He also revealed his plans to take legal actions against the Korean filming house. As soon as Parasite won four history-making awards at the Oscars, many meme makers pointed out that the film's storyline is similar to the Tamil film. While many connoisseurs of cinema and film laughed it off, PL Thenappan was furious over the similarities of Minsara Kanna in Parasite and is, therefore, planning to file a suit for plagiarism. Minsara Kanna follows the story of a man who falls in love with a woman. His family, hailing from a rich background, hatches a plan to work in the lover's house to seek approval of her family. On the other hand, Parasite traces the story of a working-class family in South Korea seeking employment at a rich house. All the members of the family pretend that they are not related to each other. Hence, similar plotlines.
