A Pakistan International Airline’s (PIA) air hostess was caught smuggling gold to New York at Allama Iqbal International airport last week. The custom officials took the air-hostess in custody after she was found smuggling two kilograms of gold. She was caught before departing for a New York bound flight, PK-721. She had not informed custom officials about carrying gold and they had, therefore, cleared her. However, she was stopped by the PIA's task force, which proceeded to offload her before informing the airline's head office. The national carrier immediately suspended her. The officials said she is currently being investigated and that further details would be released in time. A couple of years ago, London immigration officials had imposed a fine of 2,000 pounds on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for allowing air-hostess’s with expired passports on board. The London immigration officials had also arrested an air hostess and issued notice to the PIA for violation of rules. They asked the PIA to strictly ensure complete documentation of all passengers and cabin crew aboard the plane in future.
