Makeup artist turned actress, Zoya Nasir made her screen debut back in 2018. Nasir has had a hell of a career so far. She bagged a lead for her debut alongside Junaid Khan in their drama Hania. Nasir comes from a showbiz family, daughter of the Maula Jutt famed screenwriter Nasir Adib, but Zoya chose her own path to unravel in the entertainment industry. She is seen these days as an antagonist in Geo TV’s romance drama Deewangi alongside Danish Taimoor and Hiba Bukhari. Nasir will soon be seen in an upcoming drama written by the veteran actress Bushra Ansari titled Zebaish. In just a span of two years, she has made a great start in the industry. But she still has a long way to go and we are expecting her to live up to her powerful debut in her subsequent projects. MAG chatted with this insightful actor and person and here is what we have for our readers. Excerpts follow:

Let’s start with an icebreaker. Who is Zoya Nasir on-screen and off-screen?

Happy, humble, loud and obnoxious, according to friends and family.

How did your journey in the field of acting begin?

My journey in the field of acting began about two years ago. When I was offered the opportunity of a lifetime and found the courage to step in this field.

Zoya Nasir as a MUA or Zoya as an actor? Which discipline do you like yourself better in?

Being a beautician is my passion but not greater than acting. Acting makes me genuinely happy, it’s my euphoria and I love how as an actor you’re able to embody different personalities and interpret them in your own way with your acting.

What has been the worst and best thing about being a celebrity?

The worst thing about being a celebrity is that you get hate from people you don’t know, and the best thing is that you get love from people you don’t know.

What type of projects and roles will you be pursuing in the future?

Comedy! I love comedy! It’s one of my favourite things in the whole world. Honestly, wouldn’t the world be better off if we all just laughed a little more?

Describe the next 10 years of your life, and your plans.

Why would I plan and restrict my endless possibilities? I could be anywhere, anyone or maybe just done.

You debuted with a lead role in Hania last year alongside Junaid Khan, how did that happen? Walk us through.

As a beautician, I was always encouraged by the channel to step into acting but I wasn’t allowed by my brother. I guess they saw my potential and took a leap of faith in offering me a lead role, hoping I wouldn’t let them down. And if they’d put so much faith in me, I had to take my chance. My brother is my biggest supporter now. I was the first one to be casted and then came Osama, then Junaid.

Tell us something about your upcoming drama Zebaish. What should we be expecting from your role in the drama?

You won’t be sure if you love me or hate me in Zebaish. That’s the power of a well-developed character arc by Bushra Ansari and solid walk through by Iqbal Hussain.

What has been the most memorable and exciting thing you have experienced in your field/industry so far?

I get to work with different people, I get to be a different person through acting. It’s the most exhilarating feeling ever. The uncertainty of it all. I love being productive without timetables and a 9 to 5.

As an actress, what is the most challenging role you have ever taken?

Challenging to play was Natasha for Zebaish. The balancing of the character was a challenge. It was also challenging to take up Narmeen from Deewangi because it is my first negative role and I knew the greater the hate, the greater the act.

What is your dream collaboration?

Dream collaboration would be me acting for a script written by my dad.

Lastly, what’s in the pipeline for you? Are you working on any new projects?

Yes, something’s cooking and it’s great. It’ll resume after the lockdown.
