If you've ever tried to use the hollow end of a McFlurry spoon as an ice cream straw then you will have been left feeling very disappointed. The signature McDonald's spoon has a square opening at the top and many fast food fans have been convinced it's there so you can drink through it for years. But considering it's not really up to the job, the whole design is pretty pointless, right? It turns out the square end is there for another far more practical reason many of us had never considered – and it's blowing people's minds. A McDonald's employee uploaded a video to TikTok, which has racked up more than 3.8 million views to finally put an end to the debate. User @Marzpire shared a video asking, "Ever wondered why you can't drink out of a McFlurry spoon?" She then makes a McFlurry with a big dollop of ice cream and sprinkles on the chosen topping, before putting on the lid and dropping the spoon in the centre. Writing 'what the spoon is really for', she then slots it onto a machine using the square opening at the top, which spins the spoon to mix the delicious chocolate all the way down through the ice cream.
