Robot-dogs enforce social distancing in Singapore

TECH NEWS

Governments across the world have had way too much trouble keeping the masses indoors during the pandemic. Some have looked at technology to improvise a better way to monitor social distancing. A robot dog is patrolling one of Singapore's parks as part of coronavirus-related trial. The machine – made by US-based Boston Dynamics – is fitted with a camera to monitor how busy Bishan-Ang Moh Kio Park becomes. It also carries a loudspeaker to broadcast social-distancing messages.

Google Chrome introduces eases handling multiple tabs

Google announced that the next version of Chrome will let users’ group open tabs together with custom name tags and even colours. The feature, which is currently live in the most recent Chrome beta build, will start rolling out next week when the latest version of Chrome launches. Once the update hits, users will be able to create a new group or assign tabs to an existing one simply by right clicking on a tab. Google explicitly stated the update will roll out to users "slowly," so don't get frustrated if you don't get access to the feature right away.

Amazon now allows streaming without subscription

Finding TV shows and movies that you can stream on Amazon’s Fire TV devices for free without any subscriptions is about to get much simpler. The company is adding a new “free” tab to the main Fire TV navigation bar. In this section, you’ll be able to browse content that can be viewed at no charge – aside from dealing with ads – from apps like Pluto TV, Tubi, Crackle, IMDb TV, the CW, and Amazon’s News app. “Over the past year, we’ve received great feedback from Fire TV customers about their growing interest in watching free content and their desire for an easier way to find the free content that is available on Fire TV,” Amazon’s Michael Polin wrote in a blog post. “We wanted to build a curated experience that provides a simple way for customers to find movies and shows they love while also highlighting apps that offer free to watch content they may not have known about.”
