The 66th Miss Universe pageant took place on 26 November this year in the AXIS at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, United States, and the world is still in awe of the immense beauty that was on display during the event. While all contestants looked a vision in their splendid attires, the winner of the beauty pageant was announced to be Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, from South Africa, looking breathtakingly gorgeous in her nude, high-slit gown embellished with sparkling beads. She was crowned by her predecessor, Miss Universe 2016, Irs Mittenaere. The decision was made after a consensus of the six judges, constituting the jury during the final telecast; Ross Mathews, Wendy Fitzwilliam, Jay Manuel, Megan Olivi, Lele Pons and Pia Wurtzbach, with Wendy and Pia being the winners of the same beauty pageant in previous years.

The contest showcased beauties from 92 countries and territories, beating the previous record of 89 contestants in 2011 and 2012. While Demi-Leigh bagged the Miss Universe 2017’s title, Laura Gonzalez, in her sparkling, off-shoulder gown, from Colombia, was declared the first runner-up and Davina Bennett from Jamaica, flaunting her beautiful Afro hair in a lime-hued sheer gown with befittingly dramatic cape sleeves, the second runner-up. Momoko Abe of Japan hailed the “Best National Costume” Award for her chequered kimono offering a glimpse into her cultural heritage through her outfit. Other standouts from the beauty event ranged from different countries, the likes of which include Thailand, USA, Brazil, Spain, Canada, Philippines, Venezuela and Croatia, accentuating the overwhelming amount of beauty this universe possesses.

The beauty-studded show, hosted by Steve Harvey and Ashley Graham, was further improvised by the fun-packed performances of Fergie, the female vocalist of the hip-hop band Black Eyed Peas, and American singer Rachel Platten. The night showcased some of the most glamorous moments of the year, which are sure to stay afresh in fashion and beauty enthusiasts’ minds for a long time.
