Alyzeh Gabol & Bilal Ashraf - Not Your Average Girl & Boy Next Door

Perched on the floor in her exotic farshi gharara, Alyzeh looks the epitome of elegance that can make one skip a heartbeat, while Bilal on the other hand, effortlessly manages to make one go weak in the knees with his killer dimpled smile. The two exude royalty as they share snippets of their life and career in a candid chat with MAG.

What gave you your first break?

Alyzeh Gabol: My first TV commercial for a telecom.

Bilal Ashraf: When I was working as a visual effects director with my late sister Sadia Ashraf on Haroon’s music video Ishq Nasha, it was the first time I appeared in front of the camera. Even though it was a small role but things moved forward [for me] from there.

You are a model and an actor, but what do you enjoy doing more?

AG: I’ve just entered into acting and haven't discovered it much. However, modelling is something I have always loved and will keep pursuing.

BA: I’ve always been introduced as a model, even though I was an actor. I‘ve never walked on the ramp but have done still photo shoots for ads and campaigns, which is not modelling as such. So naturally, I enjoy acting.

Most memorable moment of your career?

AG: My first ramp walk, years back.

BA: When I represented Pakistani cinema at BBC Global and was called for an interview [there]. It is something I can never forget.

What is your dream project?

AG: I would love to be photographed by Mario Testino.

BA: To work in a prestigious Hollywood production or play a Bond villain.

Who do you idealise in terms of your work?

AG: Cindy Crawford.

BA: I don’t idealise any actor but I idealise my dad, for he is my inspiration.

How do you balance your personal and professional life?

AG: I think one must set their priorities straight and then everything goes in the right flow. If I am at work, I give my 100 per cent and once I am not working, then I am absolutely off work! I believe in having a life that is not all about work, and take days off when exhausted and spend that time with my daughter and family.

BA: With so much public exposure, there’s no personal life, otherwise it’s just like any other job. You go to work, come back, hang out with your friends, go to the gym and do whatever you want.

Would you call yourself an extrovert or introvert?

AG: An extrovert because I like being socially active and meeting new people.

BA: Both. I can be an introvert or extrovert depending on the situation, place and time. Usually, I’m very friendly, open and easy to get along with.

Most vivid childhood memory...

AG: My collection of dolls.

BA: Unfortunately, it’s a sad one, when I had typhoid. I just cannot forget those eight to nine months because it was a near death experience.

If you were to give an advice to your 16-year-old self, what would it be?

AG: Dress up better [laughs].

BA: Don’t waste time, follow your dreams and believe in yourself. If there’s something you want to do or achieve, go for it with all guns blazing!

What’s your idea of beauty?

AG: Beauty for me is simplicity. I actually believe in ‘less is more’.

BA: Beauty is all about having a beautiful personality.

If you ever get a chance to time travel, when and where would you choose to go?

AG: I'd love to go back to my childhood days when everything seemed so easy and I had no worries at all.

BA: London, because it’s [always] very hot in Pakistan but in London the breeze is amazing and one also gets to experience summer, winter and rainy season as well.

What kind of music do you like?

AG: Pop and romantic music.

BA: I listen to all kinds of music, anything that sounds good to my ears. I especially like 80s’ music, such as Vital Signs, Junoon, and other old songs.

One magical power you wishyou had...

AG: I wish I could undo things.

BA: I wish I had the power of mind control like Professor Charles Francis Xavier aka Professor X from X-Men.

Who’s your favourite person?

AG: My mother!

BA: It’s hard to choose one

person since it’s my dad, mum, friends, all of them are my favourite people and of course, my fans because they drive me and I work for them.
