According to a new study, open plan office spaces leave employees distracted and miserable. The study states that the layout of office plays a major role in terms of job satisfaction.

Although open plan work spaces were introduced to create an even and cooperative surrounding, however, it proved otherwise, for it irritated and distracted the workforce instead. Staffs of such offices usually find it difficult to conduct meetings and have conversations with their colleagues uninterrupted because of shared space.

Researchers at the CTF, Service Research Centre at Karlstad University in Sweden, carried out the study which also suggests that an open space office can affect productivity levels of its employees.

Dr Tobias Otterbring, the lead author of the study said, “The results show a negative relationship between the number of co-workers sharing an office and employees’ job satisfaction.”
